We finally decided to take Tom to the hospital on Sunday evening. We just got home a moment ago.

Tom had a bladder infection which was most probably causing the fever. And, he was a step away from having pneumonia. Both cleared up quickly after being put on IV antibiotics and fluids, thank goodness.

We think Tom started with the flu early last week which knocked his immune system down to let the infection take over and allowed his lungs to get cloudy.

If the flu hadn’t made him become dehydrated, we might of been able to fight this from home.
I’m kinda feel bad that I was stubborn enough to think I could fix this on my own and waited so long to get Tom to the hospital.

But, we’re home now. And Tom feels great, finally.

We’ll have to have our Do-Over soon.

Going to the doctor made sense, but we didn’t do that.

We slept. Tom slept until almost 4 pm. Which, when you go to bed at 5 am, isn’t too ridiculous when you’re sick.

Anyhow – knock on wood – Tom’s feeling better today. Not 100 percent by any means, but fairly decent considering he’s been sick since Monday.

He had a cup of soup earlier, then craved some Mac and Cheese just a while ago. To the best of my knowledge, he’s not felt nauseated all day.

So, we’ll hope we’ve reached the end of this.

Tom’s family is coming over tomorrow, since his sister and her family are up from Oklahoma. If everyone shows up, it’ll be more packed than the housewarming party last Saturday at its attendance peak.

Our friend Mindy brought over two ceiling fans today to replace the one in the living room. I have no idea when she was here. They just appeared. Now, I must find a temporary place to store them until I can find some sucker wonderful person to switch ‘em out for me.

Tom’s fever made it up to 104 fairly quickly tonight. He was sure I was going to have to call an ambulance around 2 am.

Yet, I wondered what the hospital would be able to do for him that I was not capable of doing. Of course, besides give him IV fluids.

So, instead of immediately calling 911, I decide to make some cold compresses for his arm pits and groin. I had made up my mind to take his temperature every 10 minutes. If the mercury (yes – we have an ‘old fashion’ thermometer) got a hair above 104, I was going to call the paramedics.

Of course, Tom, in his nearly delusional state, kept yelling at me that he was going to get pneumonia from me freezing him out with these ice packs and fans blowing on him. (Seriously, how does anyone get pneumonia when they have a 103.8 fever and the room is 80.6? I was sweating!)

It was quite aggravating to continuously explain to him that he knew, in his right mind, that what I was doing made sense. Also, I kept telling him that after his temperature went down, he’d be thanking me tons for saving him from going to the hospital.

Anyhow, we’re on the downward slide now, I hope. Last reading was 101.8.

I know its still high. But, its better than 104!

I guess we’ll be going to the doctor tomorrow if they can squeeze us in. This has been going on long enough.

Poor Tom is still sick. He’s just down right miserable. And, how do I know this? Because he tells me. Lots. Lots and lots.

Home Health was supposed to come over today to check Tom’s INR. At the time he was sleeping, though. So, I politely refused them today, saying that Tom getting some decent sleep was much more important than his INR (which would not have an accurate reading while he’s sick anyhow – and the last time it was checked it was just a smidge off).

I suggested the nurse stop by tomorrow. She really wanted to come by today, especially after I told her Tom was feeling poorly. She wanted to check his vitals, she said. Yeah, I can do that myself.

Uhm.
Well, his heart is beating. Check.
BP is fine. Check.
Lungs are congested – no need for any fancy nursing tools for that. But, his cough is productive and his breathing is fine. Check.

DO NOT COME OVER AND WAKE HIM UP! M’Kay, thanks, buh-bye.

So, I’ve called the doctor’s office this afternoon and left a message with the nurse to see if there’s a magic pill out there that will make Tom feel all better.

I really hope so, because the longer he’s sick, the faster I want to jump off a bridge.

Man, I don’t even know where there’s a bridge around here! I better start looking.

Tom slept in yesterday. I thought it was a little unusual but thought he was recouping from the business of the last couple of days.

When he finally woke up, he immediately felt ill. I noticed he was starting to get a fever as well.

We went through two rough waves of this virus (I’m assuming). All the good stuff here. Vomiting. Fever. Chills.

I didn’t even open the bedroom door yesterday to let the cats in.

Finally, Tom fell asleep around 5 am or so.

He’s got a cough today, but is doing much better. Thank goodness.

I haven’t noticed myself with any symptoms yet. I’m sure it would wait until tomorrow if I were to get it. I’m supposed to work. And, tomorrow is program night!

I wanted to thank everyone that made it over on Saturday. I think it was a great turn out.

I felt very scattered and wanted to spend more time with each visitor.

I regret not sitting down with my family longer, especially my Aunt Lisa whom I rarely get to see! Hopefully she’ll be able to make it back sometime soon.

I feel I don’t really have the hostess position figured out. Or, maybe the ideal hostess feels scattered and like she didn’t talk to each individual visitor as much as she should have.

If that is the case, I make a great hostess.

I hope this isn’t the last gathering at my house. I really enjoyed the fact that I had enough room to have company over without everyone stepping on each other.

The night was over late. I think my head finally hit my pillow at 5 am. I’ve still not fully recovered from the long evening!

Bless Paul, though. He had the house cleaned up and the dishes done before he went to sleep that very evening! It was wonderful to wake up and not have to pick up everything from the night before.

Hopefully work didn’t suffer too much from my bad timing. I went in for a while Sunday evening and attempted to help catch up. I’m fairly sure that there will not be a cake in the store come Monday morning. Which, in all honesty, is a great thing. I just hope that there were enough for all the customers!

Yeah, I decided to snoop around on the internet for a new layout.

You would think it would be a simple cut and paste thing.

Well, I think it took me an hour to get it like this! The flipping programmer is from another country so a lot of the coding is in a different language! Talk about difficult to figure out.

Its still not quite right.

But, I’d guess you would never know.

I should be asleep so I can wake up at a decent hour tomorrow to run errands before this whole shindig gets going. So, needless to say, I’m done messing with this for now!
