So, today I ran to the grocery store like every other psycho crazy person that needed to grab something before Thanksgiving and wanted to get there and back before the stupid first snow of the year season started….

(Happy, Blue?)

I really love the general population on a whole. Honestly.

No, I’m not bitter about it being snowy. What gave you that impression?

Anyway - I make it to the grocery store without any craziness. I park my car with no problems. I walk nearly all the way to the door with no issues.

But, as I’m walking to the door, I see a mother of 3 children and I nearly want to tackle her.

Why, you ask?

Lets do this in a list form, k?

  • The newborn she is carrying has no hat on.
  • The newborn she is carrying has no real blanket on.
  • The approximately 6 year old child is not wearing a coat.
  • The 6 year old child is not even wearing warm clothes.
  • The approximately 2 year old child is not wearing a coat.
  • The 2 year old child is not even wearing warm clothes.
  • The 2 year old child is more memorized by the cold mist that is wetting her hair than getting out of the parking lot.
  • The mother does not even turn back to check on the 2 year old while walking through the parking lot.
  • The mother does not even notice that the 2 year old is so distracted that she has stopped walking - in the middle of the parking lot!!
  • The mother makes it all the way into the grocery store with the newborn and 6 year old before finally turning back to find the 2 year old outside IN THE PARKING LOT!!

Several shoppers and I watched in shock as this all occurred. At least we were observant enough to know to whom the child belonged with… but there was ample time for that child to be taken.

Taken as in kidnapped. Gone.

I really wanted to smack this mother.

I could tell from the whole families appearance that this was not a poor family. I’m fairly certain that these children had coats somewhere. But, thats not even what bothered me most, obviously, about the ordeal.

Why?! Why, oh why would you NOT hold your 2 year old’s hand in a PARKING LOT?! I mean, a busy holiday traffic parking lot?! Why would you allow the opportunity of your child getting run over or kidnapped because you didn’t hold their hand?

I’m astonished. I’m baffled.

  1. I totally think there should be an IQ test for people to be allowed OUT IN PUBLIC. Much less with children. God, I’d have called CPS on ‘em. I called the animal services on the neighbor’s dog that they have left outside all week by itself.

  2. I’ve seen that a thousand times and once you open your mouth you always will just takes that first time. I’d have not held my tongue, I’d have embarrassed the woman right there in the middle of the parking lot. People like that don’t deserve children.

  3. my god. I hold my eight and five year old’s hands while in a parking lot!

  4. KG is right…I’d totally call CPS…didja happen to see the car they got out of, for a plate #…?

Now to be fair I get totally pissed when an old biddy tells me my baby needs a hat when it’s a 68 degree spring day…

But when it’s cold enough to snow, I just wanna smack people that don’t dress their children appropriately.

  5. KG - I agree there should be a test of some form… we should petition!

Kat - I was close to calling her out on it, but she was so in her own little world, I doubt she would of even noticed!!

Blue - Thats because you’re a responsible parent. You know, the way it should be.

Lexi - I did not see their car, they were way in the middle of the traffic lane before I noticed them.

  6. and wanted to get there and back before the stupid first snow of the year started….

OK. after reading this a few time i believe you mean season. If it has not snowed there ALL year, and you are waiting for the first snow…why your snowy season must only be a month long. December.

After all, the first snow of the year would fall sometime after January first..right?

    (ducks)

  7. God, some idiots shouldn’t breed. My kids alway had hat and coats on, hats especially, the best thing to keep a baby warm.
We used to live by a bus stop with LOTS of kids. I couldn’t believe in the cold weather, the number of kids with no coats. I don’t mean older kids where they wanted to look “cool”, little kids! It’s not that they were so poor they didn’t have coats, either. They had stupid, lazy parents.

  8. Yep, now that I’m a parent I see stupid stuff all the time and I make a mental note, “This is something I will NEVER do!” Not that I need to see it to know I wouldn’t do it…but it’s a good reminder of why some people should not have children in their care!

  9. First and foremost, I’m jealous about the snow! I miss snow. Until I have to drive in it. Then, not so much. We don’t get snow in these here parts (Loserana..aka Louisiana). Anyway…

On one hand, someone can argue the mother was suffering from post-pregnancy brain… but seriously I see your point. I get livid when I see children being neglected like that. I make sure to always know where my 24 year old daughter is when we’re together in public, never do I allow the hellion four year old to wander free.

  10. Blue - Can you tell that I’m ignoring your sarcastic comment?

Annie - My mother wouldn’t let me check the mail without a coat on, and our mailbox was attached to our house! (Okay, thats a little dramatic, but you know what I mean!)

Trisha - Uh, if you don’t hold your kids hand in the parking lot and don’t put a coat on her, I will kidnap her and raise her myself. Thx.

Lin - Ew! Jealous of snow?! And, I can understand being distracted and not giving the child 100% attention at that moment, but she never turned back to see where the child was the entire time. Scary!

  11. what? sarcasm? ME??

you must have the wrong blue

  12. Ah yes people are stupid! That really is all there is to say about that honestly! It is really scary that these people then get to make more people!!!!
They should figure out a way to fix people if they are not fit let me tell you what!!!
