I got some really cool presents this year for Christmas.  Nearly all of them have already found their ’spot’, which makes it seem like I’ve had these items forever.  The one present of mine that is still under the tree, instead of its new home is my brand spankin’ new sewing machine that I received from my mom!! I’m super excited about this, and really want to use it… if for no other reason except to test all its fun stitches.

Sadly, though, I have no thread… or any real amount of material.  These are definite purchases … as soon as possible.

I have endless ideas in my head of things to make, but very limited sewing knowledge.   I have taken some time to look at what types of patterns are available. (which, geez?!  $10 for a pattern?!)

I’ve never used a pattern.  For anything.  But, it can’t be too difficult, can it?  I mean, as long as I don’t start out with a crazy intense outfit first, I think I should be alright.  Right?

Maybe I can make my own Christmas tree skirt now.  And, (I’m sure Trish is already thinking about it) maybe I could venture into baby clothes…

But, firstly, thread and material.

What advice do you have?

  2. I got this little guy. He looks like a lot of fun, in my opinion.

  3. Sewing Machine! :stars: Think of all the cute quilts you can make now also!! Cutting small squares up, stitching them together, you don’t even need patterns for that. You can also use fabric from old clothes, blue jeans, etc! Love these smilies!!

  6. TrishK - I should ask everyone to ship me a piece of clothing. I could make a blogger blankie!! :D

Mr Fab - I’ve kind of looked online without too much luck yet. But, without the basics (material and thread), I haven’t been overly motivated to search.

Jane - Ooh, I’m intrigued. You’ll have to share a story sometime.

That’s wonderful that you got a new sewing machine! I haven’t bought any patterns in awhile, but I believe they are half-price at Wal-Mart. Also, JoAnn’s has patterns on sale frequently for like $1.99 and Wal-Mart will match the sale price. If you need any help with sewing or patterns, I’d be glad to help. Of course, Grandma is an excellent resource also. She is an excellent quilter and has TONS of patterns, books, etc.

I used to use all kinds of patterns when I did sewing in school so I could possibly help if you need. Which you probably won’t but if you do let me know. And now I would like a new skirt and a purse and a ummmm………………………………..
    hehe you get the point.
    Love ya.
