Tom’s body decided that it didn’t like its catheter yesterday and today. So much so that we figured that there was a manufacturing defect in the line itself, and we asked our favorite-est home health care nurse come out today to change to a new one.
Of course, with Tom’s (’if I didn’t have bad luck I’d have no luck at all’) luck, the new catheter did not want to be inserted for some odd reason, which causes all sorts of potential chaos for Tom. Since Tom’s SCI he doesn’t get normal sensations when it comes to anything below his level of injury. And, if Tom’s catheter doesn’t work, then Tom’s blood pressure can double or triple when his bladder is full. Extremely high blood pressure = stroke / heart attack.
Anyhow - the point of the story is that we had to call an ambulance (because waiting 4 hours in the ER waiting room is not an option for us in this situation) and go to the ER. Thankfully the ER doctor was able to somewhat forcefully reinsert Tom’s catheter before Tom’s bladder was full enough to cause any blood pressure issues.
Tom did have a couple more intense bladder spasms after we got home today, which are not fun at all. But, after flushing the catheter, I think we may have it under control.
Here’s hoping, anyhow.
No one likes to go to the ER.
But, no one really likes to go to the ER twice in two days. Right?

No tornados here, Blue. A couple hours south of here is where I think they hit.
Blogarita - We’re watching it all very carefully to make sure his problem has been fixed.
