I just took my first dose of Paxil (anti-anxiety / anti-depressant) and Clariton (allergy).

Both of these are on Wal-Mart’s $4.00 generic list, which is one of the reasons the doctor decided to start me with these two. Obviously cost without insurance is a huge factor for me, especially since these are daily medications.

I find it horribly odd that the act of taking the Paxil nearly threw me into an anxiety attack… I mean, what if?! (Yeah, putting the ‘possible side affects’ on the pills is important, but… I don’t need to feed my crazy brain with that stuff.)

Anyway - now I sit here and think, “Hm. I have to wait about a month to see if Paxil will bring me back to normalcy.”

But, what if I’ve been abnormal for so long that I don’t remember what normal is? Or, what if I am normal now and taking these meds make me abnormal?

See… I think I am mental.

Really, what I am is over-thinking.

How do I turn off my brain for this month so I can wait and see? I’m sure, actually, after knowing that I’m not going to have some ‘possible side affect’ I’ll be okay.

Aaah, anxiety.

Gotta love it.

  1. Side effects freak me the fuck out. But sometimes, the side effects are actually worth the cost of the cure, and sometimes the side effects don’t occur at all. Parker had NONE of the side effects his drugs said he would.

  2. hopefully you won’t even notice when they start to work… you’ll just feel normal… and then you’ll know they’re right for you…

  3. Blue - The logical part of my brain realizes that side effects rarely happen. But the anxiety side wins … pretty much every time as of lately.

Tori - Here’s hopin’! I’m counting down the days to normal!

  4. As a frequent flyer of the crazy meds, I can tell you this. You’ll slowly get to feeling better and better, but it’s so slow that you don’t notice. Then all the sudden the lightbulb will go off and you’ll realize that it’s been a while since you’ve felt crappy. This has happened to me every time (I’ve been off and on anti-depressants and anxiety meds for almost 30 years).

It’s a good feeling when you recognize that you’re in the light and out of the dark.

I’ll think good thoughts for you that it happens quickly. :)

  5. RG - Thanks! I’m praying that it’ll happen quickly, too!!

You’ll know when you feel “normal.” Geekman suffered from chronic depression for years. And for years I tried to get him to see someone. He finally did and he feels tons better and he acts a lot different.

Good luck with it. Give it a couple of weeks.

  7. Thanks Miss Ann. I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t have to try a slew of different things before I find ‘the one’.

  8. did you go to tom’s dr?

  9. I went to Tom’s doctor’s office. I actually saw a nurse practitioner who was super nice and helpful.

  10. I hated Paxil way more than I hate anxiety, it destroyed my life (for the two weeks I took it before stopping). A good friend of mine has taken it for years and loves it, nothing else worked for him.

I guess my point is that it’s different for everyone, so don’t get concerned about possible side effects.

  11. Nobody - I understand what you’re saying, but you’re not helping me with my anxiety by saying it. ;)

Actually, like I told Miss Ann, I just hope I don’t have to try a whole bunch of different ones before I find the one that works for me. I really hope this is it.

  12. I agree with what everyone has said. As to how to make your head shut-up… that’s the million dollar question!
