I am SO sorry for your loss of your pets and your home. If anyone deserves a widget for help in their sidebar, it is absolutely you. I recently lost my home to foreclosure. Not our fault at all. We were in a contract to rent the house to own. The landlords stopped paying the bank and kept not only our downpayment on the house, but all the money we had been sending toward the mortgage payment for nearly 8 months. In total? Nearly $13,000 gone. I was in an utter panic...so I spoke to my "dear friend" Britt about it. She very genuinely offered me her home to stay in if I needed it. A sweet gesture, certainly, but not a very practical one as I had a home full of furniture and a young son who needed some sense of normalcy by staying in school. Had Britt put a widget on her blog for me to help us raise $3000 just to get us into a temporary rental, I would have been embarrassed, humiliated...but humbled and grateful that anyone would go to that extent to help my family out. We had 72 hours to get the hell out of dodge before the bank threw the locks on the doors. We are safe now, in a new place, albeit a temporary one...but you can simply imagine the bile that rose in my throat seeing her ask for three grand for a motorcycle for Jared. My story aside, I know of at least three other of her "close" friends who could have benefited from that money. And each of these three donated to that fund...and sent me emails about it.
